Two Record-Breaking Pieces of Produce
Last Saturday, we were honored to provide scale and calibration services for the Kentucky State Fair’s Largest Pumpkin & Watermelon Contest. This year’s two record-breaking pieces of produce made the contest particularly exciting! Grown by Todd & Donna Skinner, the first record breaker was a sizable squash weighing in at 1271.0 lbs. This squash broke both the record for largest Squash ever grown in Ohio and the largest squash in the Kentucky State Fair’s history. The afternoon’s second monster weigh in came from a massive 1329.0 lbs pumpkin grown by Hobart Girdler. That may sound huge, and it was, but there was an even bigger pumpkin in attendance, a massive 1513.5 lbs pumpkin grown by Andy Wolf out of New York. Unfortunately, due to the pumpkins massive size and long travel, a small hole formed in the side of the pumpkin disqualifying it from the event.
